Put both quotes against one product and one site
Send both installers the same door model, configuration and site information. If one quote assumes a new finished opening and the other includes removal of an old enclosure, the totals are not describing the same job. Record the assumptions next to each quote before comparing price.
Separate removal from preparation
Ask whether the quote includes taking away the old door, disposal and any work needed on the surfaces left behind. Old mounting points, damaged finishes or an unsuitable ledge may require separate work. Do not assume the installer who mounts the new door is also quoting tile repair or waterproofing work.
Clarify receiving and handling
Ask who will receive the shipment, check it before installation and arrange safe access to the work area. Confirm any building access arrangements and what happens if the order is incomplete or damaged. Write down whether a return visit or rescheduling is included, excluded or priced only after review.
Check installation scope and exclusions
Use the comparison sheet for included labor, model-specific materials, surface preparation, cleanup and disposal. For each line, mark included, excluded or unclear. An unclear item is a question—not a zero-dollar item. Ask how changes in scope will be agreed before additional work begins.
Compare responsibilities after the work
Ask each provider to explain the scope of its own workmanship support and how you should raise a concern. Keep that separate from the product seller’s policies. Do not assume a product warranty covers the installer’s work, or that the installer determines every product claim.
Make the decision with a complete scope
Once the missing items are explained, compare the documented scopes and totals. Keep written terms rather than relying on a verbal all-in statement. This worksheet does not estimate a national installation price; it helps you understand the quotes for your own room and selected door.
